Porsche Panamera Turbo S bookings open

  • Nov 11, 2013

Hot on the heels of the launch of Porsche's face-lifted Panamera on 9 October 2013, comes the announcement of its new flagship performance version, the Turbo S. Featuring the same powertrain as that of the Panamera Turbo, the 4.8 liter twin turbo V8 engine in the Porsche Panamera Turbo S gets new turbochargers with larger compressors, the injection pressure has also been upped to 140 bar while specially coated piston rings and different aluminum alloy pistons allow for more fuel-oxygen combustion at higher engine loads.

The end result is 50PS of more power and 50Nm of more torque. As a result, peak power is now pegged at 577PS of power and 750Nm of torque between 2,250 rpm and 5,000 rpm, with 800Nm of torque being churned out during overboost.

The engine continues to be mated to the company's seven-speed dual clutch gearbox that in conjunction with the engine allows the Panamera Turbo S to go from standstill to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds and onwards to a top speed of 310 km/h. The Porsche Panamera Turbo S comes with launch control for optimum high speed standing starts and is equipped with three drive modes, namely Comfort, Sport and Sport plus. The overboost function is available in Sport and Sport Plus modes and during kick down in Comfort mode as well. Power is put down on the road by an active all-wheel drive system.

Porsche has loaded its top-of-the-line four-seater Gran Turismo with a host of electronic features such as Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) that prevents the vehicle's body from rolling on its longitudinal axis by applying a counter torque using active stabilisers on the front and rear axles and electronic rear differential lock to help extract optimum performance. To keep all the power in check, Porsche's torque vectoring system and ceramic brakes come as standard on the Panamera Turbo S.

The Porsche Panamera Turbo S also comes with the company's Active Suspension Management that consists of an adaptive air suspension system along with adaptive damper control to deliver different ride manners to the car as required by the driver.

In order to set the Panamera Turbo S apart from its lesser siblings, Porsche has fitted the car with 20-inch 911 Turbo II alloy wheels and a four-way rear spoiler. The car also gets an optional sports exhaust system that allows the V8's deep sound track to become more sonus at the push of a button.

On the inside, the Panamera Turbo S gets a new 'Dark Burl Walnut' interior package, standard 14 way adjustable front seats while adaptive sports seats are optional.

The new Porsche Panamera Turbo S will be showcased at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show while bookings have already commenced in India with deliveries scheduled to begin in February 2014. The company is yet to announce the price for the top model Panamera in India. Watch this space for more updates.
