Porsche India has officially launched a diesel-powered variant of the four-door Panamera, called the Panamera Diesel 'Edition'. While the company offers a 300 PS variant of Panamera Diesel internationally, the company is offering the 250 PS model here. The 3.0-litre, turbocharged V6 diesel motor develops 250 PS of maximum power at 3800 RPM and 550 Nm of maximum torque spread from 1750 RPM to 2750 RPM.

Exterior design highlights include 19-inch twin-spoke alloy wheels, bi-xenon headlamps offered with Porsche Dynamic Light System, gloss-black window- and door-trim. The Panamera Diesel is also offered with an active rear-spoiler.

The Porsche Panamera is a sports car that combines the fun of driving a sports car with the practicality of a four-door family sedan. It offers the perfect balance of handling and comfort for its dual-purpose car. Purists might rant over the front-mounted engine instead of a mid-ship layout but then it has to be understood that this car has more than one role to play. It has to please the driver as much as the rear seat occupant without compromising on space or comfort. In that sense it is, indeed, a practical sports car.

The car is capable of rocketing to 100 km/h from naught in 6.62 seconds. It's not just the initial acceleration that's strong in this car; it can also move the speedo reading from 80 km/h to 120 km/h in just 4.5 seconds offering incredible in-gear acceleration even at triple digit speeds. In the interest of "safety", the top speed has been restricted to 244 km/h.

On the inside, then Panamera Diesel Edition is offered with a Black-and-Beige part-leather upholstery, 'Edition' branding on the door-sill plates, a 7-inch touch-screen monitor based infotainment system, a 585 watt Bose sound system with 14 speakers, adaptive air suspension, power sunroof, four-zone climate control and park assist. Not that it matters much, but the fuel efficiency figures range from 13 km/l to 18 km/l based on urban or interstate usage, respectively, which is impressive given that it's a performance oriented car. Obviously, double digits efficiency will remain dream figures once you get addicted to the acceleration.

Millionaires who also like to take the wheel once in awhile can now opt for the Panamera instead of having the de facto S-Class along with another sportster in the garage. Porsche's badge also holds great snob value when compared to other alternatives in the category. The car has been priced aggressively at Rs. 1,04,16,000, ex-showroom, Mumbai.
