has opened the sales counters for its upcoming compact sedan, the Tigor
. The minimum booking amount for the stylish sub-4m sedan is Rs 5,000.
The Tigor is essentially a three-box version of Tata's popular hatchback, the Tiago
. Besides the platform, the Tigor also shares the engines with its hatchback twin. The Tiago, however, comes in an automatic avatar as well, that was recently launched. The Tigor, for now, will be available with a manual transmission only.
The maximum power output of Tigor's 1.2-litre petrol engine is 85PS while that of the 1.05-litre diesel engine is 70PS. Both the engines continue to remain in the same state of tune as in the Tiago and come with the same 5-speed manual transmission.
The Tigor looks similar to the Tiago from the front. However, the boot differentiates it from the hatchback. Tata has worked well on the design to make the Tigor look unlike any other compact sedan in the country.
The Tigor will feature more equipment than the Tiago with things like projector headlamps, LED tail-lamps and 15-inch alloy wheels added to the mix.
On the inside, the Tigor will get a Harman music system with 5-inch touchscreen. It'll also get reverse parking sensors with camera, the touchscreen doubling up as a display unit for the same. Automatic climate control is another feature that falls into the Tigor's kitty but not Tiago's.
Tata managed to price the Tiago brilliantly, and it has turned out to be one of the best-selling cars for the carmaker in 2016. If Tata manages to price the Tigor aggressively, the sedan sibling may very well give a tough fight to rivalling compact sedans like the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze and Ford Figo Aspire. The Tigor is expected to cost between Rs 4.2 lakh and Rs 6.8 lakh (ex-showroom).
