Nissan planning to bring it’s “Infiniti” Luxury car brand to India with the Infiniti Q30

  • Jul 11, 2014

tNissan’s Infiniti brand is a sought after luxury brand in several parts of the globe where the Infiniti cars are available on sale. It is now expected to make its way into India in the near future. According to the report published by Autocar Professional, Andy Palmer who currently serves as Nissan’s Chief Planning Officer is keen on seeing the Infiniti car brand make its way onto our shores and into the homes of the luxury car buyers of our country. Indian luxury car segment has seen good growth in recent times with the world’s top luxury car manufacturers posting good year on year sales growth in our country.

Andy Palmer now wants a piece of the same and he continues to say that Nissan is aimed at getting atleast 10 percent of the Indian car market share by the year 2016. It wouldn’t be an easy job to do but with Datsun expected to bring in a lot of sales upto the tune of 50%. Infiniti will be the third brand that will be part of Nissan’s market share success story when it gets to achieving that number in 2016. Datsun Go hatchback car is the first hatchback car to be produced and sold in India and it has raked up more than 7500 units already in recent times.

To combat its rivals and increase its market share Nissan will increase its dealer network from its existing 160 outlets to 200 and eventually take it up to 300 to deal with customers from across the length and breadth of the nation. Nissan also parted ways with Hover Automotive which was its previous local distributor in the country. This happened just as Nissan prepared to launch the Datsun Go towards the end of March 2014.

Luxury car market is growing at a good pace despite the mass segment seeing a slump in sales over the past year. Luxury car brands such as Audi, Mercedes-Benz and BMW have seen good sales of their cars. Mercedes-Benz has been successfully selling its A-Class and B-Class to new customers while BMW has followed suit with its X1 and Audi with its Q3. These cars have formed large parts of the sales figures for the trio. Nissan’s entry into the luxury car market with the Infiniti car brand will certainly heat up the luxury segment while providing new options to existing and new customers.

The new Q30 being developed by Nissan in a JV with Daimler will see a crossover as well. This car will see the Infiniti Motor Company upping the ante in the segment. According to Andy Palmer, Infiniti is likely to come in to India with the new Q30. But that’s not all Andy would like to see on our roads! He also want’s to see Nissan India selling the mighty Godzilla aka the 2015 version of the Nissan GT-R Nismo here. We say, bring it on!!
