The next generation Hyundai Xcent compact sedan has recently been spotted for the first time being tested on the road. The car was expectedly heavily camouflaged but still lent a fair idea about how it would look like. The new Xcent is slated to debut at the 2020 New Delhi Auto Expo.

The 2020 Xcent, from the front, looks similar to the new Sonata and the next generation i20. The car sports Hyundai’s signature cascading grille with a honeycomb finish. Its new bumper has a triangular housing for the fog lamps. The headlights of the new car look very similar to the ones seen on the current model but could be projector units. The 2020 Xcent will have new LED tail lamps.

The new Hyundai Xcent may retain the same 1.2-litre diesel and petrol engines, albeit in their BS-VI avatar, from the outgoing model. The current 1.2-litre petrol motor produces 83PS maximum power and 114Nm peak torque. The diesel unit, on the other hand, outputs 75PS of maximum power and 190Nm of peak torque. Both engines are mated to a 5-speed manual gear system. The petrol engine, however, gets a 4-speed automatic transmission (AT) unit as an option.

The 4-speed AT is expected to be replaced with a 4-speed automated manual transmission (AMT) system in the new Xcent. Hyundai may offer the AMT in the diesel model as well. Inside the cabin, the new Xcent will have a touchscreen infotainment system. The 2020 Xcent, as and when it hits the streets, will face competition from Honda Amaze, Ford Figo Aspire, Tata Tigor, and the compact sedan segment leader, Maruti Suzuki Dzire. The new Xcent is expected to be more expensive than the outgoing version because of the BS-VI compliant engine and new set of features. The current Xcent commands an ex-showroom price of ₹5.72 lakh to 8.77 lakh.

The spy shots do not reveal anything about the interior of the next-gen Xcent, however, it is likely to look similar to those of the new Grand i10, which is expected to debut by the end of this year. Expect it to feature floating touchscreen infotainment system and a new steering wheel, similar to the Venue.
