2016 Toyota Fortuner India Launch Teaser

Toyota has released the first teaser of the upcoming all-new Fortuner SUV. Set to be launched on October 7, the new Fortuner is expected to continue from where the last model left off - at the top. The toughest competitor to the Fortuner's crown is the Endeavour, with the Hyundai Santa Fe, SsangYong Rexton, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport and Chevrolet Trailblazer fighting it out for the distant third.

Toyota dealerships across the country have reportedly begun accepting bookings for the highly anticipated SUV - with booking amounts of Rs 2 lakh.

Here's a look at what the new Fortuner looks like-

The front fascia has received a big facelift, with large and sleek headlamps, large chrome grille, large air-dam and clamshell bonnet.

Highlights on the side include the striking window line which includes the blacked-out pillars. The rear-most  window flows onto the rear windshield, while also giving the roof a floating effect. The wheel arches bulge nicely and there are enough surface variations to keep the design interesting. A pair of chrome/silver roof rails add to the design on the side.

The rear design is minimalistic, with sleek taillamps, a boot-mounted spoiler, a chrome garnish and a prominent rear bumper.

2016 Toyota Fortuner Interior Dashboard

Inside, the Fortuner is set to be more luxurious than the model it replaces. There are a lot of design elements and features here which will feel familiar to those who have checked out the new Innova Crysta.

The Fortuner will share its engines with the Innova Crysta too. This mean there will be two diesel and a petrol motor on offer to customers in India. The smaller of the two diesel motors is a 2.4-litre GD motor developing 150PS/343Nm paired to a 5-speed manual transmission. The larger 2.8-litre GD motor develops 174PS/360Nm and is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. It is expected that Toyota's part-time 4WD system will be offered with 2.8-litre motor/6-speed automatic transmission combination. The petrol engine is a 2.7-litre unit which develops 166PS/245Nm and can be optioned with either a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.

More details are awaited.
