New Skoda Octavia To Come Out This Year

  • Mar 25, 2019

The fourth-gen Skoda Octavia will be revealed later this year. This comes after the automaker made an official announcement at the 2019 annual press conference. Currently, in India, Skoda Octavia is in its third generation that was launched back in 2013. The new Octavia is likely to go on sale in the country next year.

Expected to be inspired by the Skoda Scala, the new Octavia will get triangular headlamp units instead of the polarising split headlamps. The tail lamps will also be similar to the ones seen on the Scala. Inside, the new Octavia is expected to get a floating centre console design which can be seen inside the Kamiq and the Scala.

Under the hood, the new Octavia will get two new petrol engines, the 1.5-litre TSI EVO turbocharged unit and the 2.0-litre TSI turbo. There will be a diesel engine on offer too, the 2.0-litre TDI unit. On the transmission front, expect the Octavia to come with both, manual as well as DSG gearbox. The India-spec model is likely to get these powertrains. A CNG-powered version is likely to be offered with the new Octavia. This will come with 1.5-litre turbo and 1.5-litre TGI EVO petrol engines. Expect CNG-powered Octavia to come to India as well.

Earlier, VW unveiled the new 2.0-litre TDI EVO engine at the 2018 Vienna Motor Symposium that produces 136PS to 204PS of power, with mild-hybrid tech. This engine is likely to be present under the new Octavia’s flesh soon if not at launch.

The fourth-gen Octavia is expected to go on sale globally, including India in 2020. In the country, it rivals the Toyota Corolla Altis, recently introduced Honda Civic, the Hyundai Elantra and the Maruti-badged Corolla.
