New Hyundai Xcent Spotted Testing In India

  • Aug 14, 2019

The next generation Hyundai Xcent has been spotted during one of its test runs in India, and from the images now being widely circulated on the internet, it seems that the car will based on the Grand i10 Nios which will be launched soon. Though the Xcent was heavily camouflaged, its front-end resemblance to the Nios is apparent.

The current Hyundai Xcent compact sedan is based on the Grand i10 and it is hence logical that the sedan’s new version will be based on the i10 Nios. The car will retain its sub-4m form with an added third box for extra boot space.

Images of the new Xcent’s front have revealed the same lighting layout like the upcoming Grand i10 Nios. The headlamps have boomerang-shaped LED daytime running lights (DRLs) that flank the cascading grille. The car gets wraparound taillights with LED strips, while the place for the number plate has been shifted to the rear bumper.

The South Korean carmaker is likely to retain the interior of the Nios in the new Xcent. The latter will have a freestanding touchscreen infotainment system and a new steering wheel.

The upcoming Xcent is expected to be hauled by BS-VI compliant diesel and petrol motors, along with the new automated manual transmission (AMT) system which will debut on the Nios. A factory-fitted compressed natural gas (CNG) version of the Xcent may be launched at a later stage.

The next generation Hyundai Xcent could be unveiled later this year. Hyundai, however, may delay its release to the 2020 Auto Expo. The new Xcent is touted to be pegged between ₹6 lakh to ₹9 lakh and include a premium over the car’s existing price. The car will renew its rivalry with the Honda Amaze, Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Tata Tigor, and Ford Aspire in the Indian compact sedan segment.
