Hyundai has unveiled the all-new Elantra in Korea. Dubbed the Avante for the Korean market, the new car is the sixth-generation model of what the company claims is its best selling car across the world.

According to Hyundai, the next-gen Elantra is 20mm longer and 25mm wider than the outgoing model- the one which is available in India. This will result in a more spacious cabin, which the company claims, is now comparable to cars above its segment. Subsequently, Hyundai also improved the quality over the previous model and the new car’s cabin features more soft-touch plastics and high-quality materials. The body structure now incorporates 32% more advanced high-strength steel compared to the car it replaces.

Aesthetics of the new Elantra portray a sharper design as compared to the ‘fluidic’ lines of the current model. The single-frame hexagonal grille clubbed with slim and sporty headlamps looks sleek. Hyundai designers have also lowered the head-lamps to give the car a low and wide proportioned appearance. The wheel arches have been redesigned and the tail-lights have also been made sleeker and sharper than before.

Hyundai has refined the cabin of the Elantra in the new version, and as per the company, it’s now more driver focused. The cockpit display is angled 6.9 degrees towards the driver while new features and equipment have been added in the cabin. There’s a new high-end Harman audio system, Integrated Memory Seat (IMS) etc., in the new car. The new Elantra also features latest safety technologies such as Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), High Beam Assist (HBA), Blind Spot Detection (BSD) and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA).

Hyundai is offering the new Elantra with three engine options- 2 petrol and 1 diesel- in the Korean market. The petrol range has a new 2.0 MPi Atkinson engine rated at 149PS and 180Nm. Next on offer is a 1.6-liter GDi petrol unit developing 132PS and 161Nm. The diesel engine on offer is a 1.6-litre VGT diesel producing 136PS and 300Nm. The engines can be had with either six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmissions. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission has also been introduced, but that will be exclusive to the diesel version.

The suspension setup has been redesigned in the new Elantra as per Hyundai. This will boost ride comfort and handling characteristics of the car. Hyundai also says the steering feel has been further improved and it now offers smooth, stable handling and better responses at higher speeds.
