New Hybrid Honda Jazz To Launch In October

  • May 09, 2019

Leading Japanese automobile behemoth Honda is all set to introduce the fourth generation Jazz crossover hatchback car in October at the Tokyo Motor Show.

The new Jazz would retain the signature high stance. Spy images that have since appeared on the internet, have revealed a major overhaul at the back along with a more mature design. The pictures suggest a minimalistic cabin with a large touchscreen infotainment system on the dashboard. The car will also have a digital instrument cluster.

The Minato headquartered company, meanwhile, has confirmed that the new Jazz will have a new dual-motor, i-MMD powertrain besides the regular petrol engine. Honda has come up with a compact version of the hybrid engine which hauls the latest CR-V and Accord models. The new powertrain will debut in the 2020 Honda Jazz.

The company is yet to confirm the specifications of the new compact hybrid powertrain. The Accord, meanwhile, is hauled by a 2.0-litre petrol engine, coupled with two electric motors. The combined output of the engine is 215PS maximum power. The hybrid engine of the new Jazz is expected to be small with lower power output. The current Atkinson cycle, 1.5-litre petrol engine which hauls the third generation Honda Fit Hybrid, could be fitted inside the new Jazz.

Honda offers the Jazz in India in both diesel and petrol options. The company has clarified that all existing diesel vehicles will be sold with BS-VI compliant engines, once the new emission standard is implemented from April next year.

Honda, however, is unlikely to equip the Jazz with an optional diesel motor. The existing hybrid engine comprises one motor. The new Jazz engine is likely to have two electric motors. The impact will be an improved fuel economy. The third generation Fit/Jazz hybrid car returns a mileage of around 37kmpl under Japanese test conditions.
