Fiat Chrysler India has confirmed that the new-generation Jeep Wrangler will be launched in India on 9 August. However, the company has not clarified whether the Sahara or Rubicon or both versions will be introduced. Both the new-generation models have been spotted testing in India in the last few months. Also, both the 5-door and 3-door Wranglers have been imported and it’s likely that the sports utility vehicles (SUVs) will be homologated in India.

The 2018 Wrangler models were first unveiled at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show. The cars were later launched in the European market.

The new-generation Jeep Wrangler is mounted on a larger, lighter platform. Some of the car’s major upgrades include LED headlamps, and a new bumper and grille. The daytime running lights (DRLs) are housed in the front fender. Both the Sahara and Rubicon versions have stylish alloy wheels, new outside rearview mirrors (OVRMs) with integrated turn indicators and taillights.

The new Wrangler has an updated cabin which features a revised dashboard. The centre is dominated by an 8.4-inch, Uconnect touchscreen infotainment system with navigation support. The infotainment system also supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Other features of the new Wrangler include a dual-zone climate control, push-button start, and passive keyless entry.

The new-generation Jeep Wrangler will be available in both diesel and petrol engine options. Jeep had introduced a four-cylinder, 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol motor in the Wrangler when the car was first unveiled. The engine produced 270PS maximum power and 400Nm peak torque. The current 3.6-litre V6 petrol motor has been introduced in North America, alongside the 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine. The latter outputs 260PS maximum power and 600Nm torque. Jeep may bring the 2.0-litre petrol and the 2.2-litre and 3.0-litre diesel engine for the Wrangler in India.

The new-generation Wrangler could command an ex-showroom price of ₹60 lakh.
