Hyundai is expected to take the game higher up the price range and conquer pricier categories. The Grand i10, followed by the Elite i20 and then the Creta have all been extremely successful despite the premium Hyundai charged for these cars. Autocrat India reports that the all-new Elantra is expected to make its grand entrance in India in the month of September this year.

In tow will be two engine options, one will be the trusty 1.6-litre diesel engine that'll make around 130PS of power and the other will be a 2.0-litre petrol motor that'll pump out 150PS of power. If rumours are to be believed, a turbocharged 1.4-litre petrol engine with direct injection mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission might also make it to India. Turbocharged petrol engine and a dual clutch transmission should make the car quick off the line while also delivering improved fuel efficiency if driven in a sedated manner. The 2.0-litre petrol motor will employ the Atkinson cycle for better kmpl figures.

There will be a 6-speed torque converter automatic and a 6-speed manual transmission available with both, the petrol and the diesel engine. In short, the engine and transmission combos will look like that of the Creta with only the 1.4-litre diesel engine missing from the list.

The new Elantra will say goodbye to the fluidic design, which didn't find as many fans and go for a more toned-down version of the design that's in line with the latest products from the stable. The Fluidic 2.0 design language is catching good traction and looks more mature.

The car will compete against Volkswagen Jetta, Skoda Octavia, Chevrolet Cruze and the segment leader, Toyota Corolla Altis. It'll be an uphill battle for the Korean carmaker but the fact that it has already broken the ice successfully in the Rs 10+ lakh category should help the Elantra accumulate good sales numbers.
