New, Bigger Hyundai Creta 2020 Spied

One of the most successful compact SUVs in India, the Hyundai Creta, was refreshed in 2018 and new spy shots suggest a timely update for 2020. The SUV has dominated the market and the new version is likely a generation change. A heavily camouflaged vehicle was spotted testing in China.

If the spy shots are anything to go by, the second generation Creta appears to be larger than the current one. With a raised nose and bigger bonnet, Hyundai’s new design language for SUVs seems to be apparent, like on the Kona. This means that the daytime running lamps are located on the top, in line with the bonnet. The headlights are shifted to the bumper with a large floating grille between them. The spy shots also got a peep into the interiors, sadly the entire dashboard was concealed. They did reveal the dual-tone interiors which give a premium look along with piano black and brushed aluminium door trims. The Creta is already feature packed with features like sunroof, auto AC and ventilated seats. What new features will be added remains to be seen. One speculation is that the infotainment system will be ‘floating’ above the dash, like the one in the upcoming Tucson.

Currently in India, any car with an engine larger than 1500cc is considered in the luxury segment, attracting higher tax. This applies to the Creta since it is presently being offered with 1.6L engines, along with 1.4L engines. To bring the Creta to a lower tax bracket, it is expected to launch with new 1.5L petrol and diesel engines. These new engines are likely to make their appearance in the new Verna facelift. As of today the 1.6L and 1.4L engines being offered have the option of a 6-speed manual gearbox. Only the bigger 1.6L engine can be opted with a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

The Creta offers a very compelling package and the new version should only strengthen its stand in the Indian market. It goes head to head with the Maruti S-Cross, Renault Captur, and the newly launched Nissan Kicks. Current ex-showroom Delhi prices are in the range of Rs 9.5 – Rs 15.1 lakh.
