Mitsubishi to launch new Pajero Sport in 2017

Mitsubishi Motors revealed the 2017 Pajero Sport recently in the international market and the SUV is likely to hit the Indian shores in mid-2017. The new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport will come with updated interiors and exteriors and will replace the current Pajero Sport model in the country.

The Pajero Sport is the only model sold by the Japanese car manufacturer in India and after the end of the partnership with Hindustan Motors recently, the carmaker will launch the upcoming Pajero Sport as an exclusive Mitsubishi model.

Internationally, the 2017 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport SUV is based on the company’s pick-up truck and is powered by a 2.4-litre, MIVEC turbo diesel engine, paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The same engine also does duty on the pick-up truck. However, the SUV will produce more power than the pick-up truck by generating around 172 - 182PS. It is also offered with a 4WD system along with a new off-road driving mode.

The new SUV will come with more features and a host of safety equipment. Talking about the design, the upcoming Pajero Sport will feature Mitsubishi’s new design language which will come with chrome inserts throughout. The exteriors will come equipped with bigger front grille with a dash of chrome all round, smooth and glossy headlights and a new tail lamp cluster.

Inside, one will notice a four-spoke steering wheel with audio controls, new centre console with silver finish and leather upholstery seats. It will also include a new touchscreen infotainment system, 360-degree camera, seven airbags and an electronic hand brake. The carmaker will also equip the new SUV with other driver-assist features such as autonomous braking, blind spot monitoring and hill descent control.

Till now, all the Mitsubishi models were assembled at Hindustan Motors’ plant in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. However, from now onwards, the automaker will have to assemble them alone. When launched, the 2017 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport will lock horns with the likes of Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner and the upcoming Chevrolet Trailblazer.
