After marking its presence in the Indian auto market with the Hector, MG Motor is all geared up to bring in the next offering for the Indian buyers. It is none other than the MG ZS EV, an electric compact SUV, which is likely to be launched in January next year. The official unveiling, however, is set to happen in December 2019.

The company has listed the vehicle on its official Indian website with all the necessary details. Talking about the compact SUV, it gets a 45.6 kWh battery pack, which comes with a fast-charging function enabling it to charge from zero to up to 80 per cent in just 30 minutes. The company claims that the ZS EV will have a travel range of up to 428 km and its electric motor will put out a max power of 150 PS and a peak torque of 350 Nm.

Aside from the electric version, there will be petrol and mild-hybrid versions of the ZS SUV too. However, both the engines will be launched at a later stage, making the ZS EV compact SUV the first vehicle in India to be launched before its fuel-powered counterparts.

In the international markets, the MG ZS EV is offered with 1.5-litre petrol and 1.0-litre turbocharged mild-hybrid petrol engine options. While the petrol engine produces 106 PS of max power and 141 Nm of peak torque, the mild-hybrid version is good for 111 PS and 160 Nm of power and torque respectively. The petrol counterpart comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox, whereas the mild-hybrid comes coupled with a 6-speed automatic transmission system.

Inside, the MG ZS EV comes packed with an 8-inch infotainment system with connectivity features, cruise control, a sunroof, a multi-info display and more. The highlighting part of the cabin is its in-built air purifier attached to the air conditioning system that’ll keep the air quality inside the cabin in check at all times.

MG is likely to price the new ZS EV in the price bracket of Rs 20 lakh and Rs 25 lakh (ex-showroom). Once launched, the electric compact SUV will compete against the likes of the Hyundai Kona Electric and the Nissan Leaf EV.

The possibility of MG displaying both ZS EV and globally-recognized IC versions of the ZS SUV at the upcoming Auto Expo 2020 in New Delhi is quite high.
