MG Hector Now Available For Test Drive

  • Jun 14, 2019

British automobile manufacturer Morris Garages (MG), which is all set to re-enter the Indian market with the midsized Hector sports utility vehicle (SUV), has begun offering the car for test drives to intending buyers. The car will be rolled out later this month and will compete with the Mahindra XUV500, Honda CR-V, Jeep Compass, Hyundai Tucson, and the Tata Harrier in its class.

The MG Hector will be available in both diesel and petrol engine options. The 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol motor will produce 250Nm peak torque and 143PS maximum power. It will be mated to a 6-speed manual gear system or a 6-speed dual clutch transmission (DCT). The 2.0-litre diesel motor, on the other hand will output 350Nm peak torque and 170PS maximum power.

It will, however, come with only the 6-speed manual transmission. The diesel motor is the same unit which hauls the Tata Harrier and the Jeep Compass. The 1.5-litre petrol motor may also be equipped with a 48V mild hybrid system and will come with manual transmission. The MG Hector will be the first car in its segment to have a mild hybrid system.

The Hector packs in several unique features that include the eSIM system which helps the car to remain connected to the internet even on the move. That aside, the car will have MG’s proprietary iSmart technology which will allow remote controlled operation of various cabin features like sunroof opening/closing, tailgate release, and AC.

MG has opened the bookings for the Hector SUV.

The car can be booked by visiting the nearest dealership or on the company’s official website. MG has set up 120 touchpoints across India, which it plans to take up to 250 by September. The SUV is being manufactured at the company’s Halol workshop. The car will be introduced in four models and five colour schemes. It is expected to command an ex-showroom starting price of ₹15 lakh.
