MG Hector Interior Images Spied Ahead Of Launch

  • May 13, 2019

British car manufacturer Morris Garages (MG) will debut in the Indian market with the Hector sports utility vehicle (SUV) on 15 May. Ahead of its launch, a number of spy images of the car’s interior have lent a fair idea of the vehicle’s cabin and interior features.

The biggest show stealer in the new car is the oversized infotainment system. It eliminates the need for multiple buttons on the dashboard. The 10.4-inch touchscreen is vertically stacked and includes functions like climate control, audio playback and the MG i-SMART connected car application. The vehicle has a panoramic sunroof and a leather-wrapped steering wheel which has audio functions and the cruise control button. The infotainment display unit is flanked by a speedometer and an analogue rev counter.

Controls for the headlamp adjuster, outside rear view mirrors (ORVMs), and the boot release are located beneath the AC vent on the driver’s side.

The MG Hector will be available in two engine options. The turbocharged, 1.5-litre petrol motor is expected to produce 143PS maximum power and 250Nm peak torque. The engine will be mated to an automatic transmission system. The 2.0-litre Multijet diesel motor, available in 170PS and 140PS tuning, is the same unit that hauls the Jeep Compass. The diesel Hector is likely to produce 170PS maximum power and is unlikely to be available with an automatic gear changing unit at least at the time of launch. It will be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission system.

The MG Hector SUV is expected to hit the roads in the first week of June. The car is likely command an ex-showroom price of INR15-20 lakh and will compete with the Mahindra XUV500, Jeep Compass, and the Tata Harrier in its segment. The Hector is also set to be the first connected mid-sized SUV in the Indian market.
