Morris Garages (MG) is all set to introduce its eZS electric sports utility vehicle (SUV) in India by the end of the current year and the car will compete with the recently launched Hyundai Kona. The eZS was first showcased in China and has now been launched in the UK.

The MG eZS has a 44.5kWh lithium-ion battery which powers the electric motor. It produces 143PS maximum power and 353Nm peak torque. The combined world harmonised light-duty vehicles test procedure (WLTP) range of the vehicle is 262km on a single charge. It returns a mileage of 372km under the WLTP city cycle. Both are significantly higher than the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) numbers.

The battery in the eZS, according to MG, can be charged up to 80 percent in 40 minutes with a 50kW fast charger. The home box charger takes around six hours to fully recharge the battery. The MG eZS also comes with the standard three-pin charger in case of emergencies. MG has already started installing fast charging stations in select showrooms.

The UK version of the MG eZS has an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 448-litre boot, and panoramic sunroof. All these features are likely to be offered in the India-specific model. However, driver-assist functions like lane departure warning and active emergency braking, may not be offered in the Indian version of the eZS.

The MG Hector is offering the connected car technology and the same is almost certain to be retained in the eZS. The UK-specific eZs is covered under a 7-year warranty which includes the battery. Hyundai, meanwhile, is offering the Kona in India with a 3-year/unlimited km warranty. The Kona’s battery comes with an 8-year warranty.

The eZS is expected to command a price between ₹20 lakh to ₹25 lakh. Its trial production is already underway at the MG workshop in Halol.
