Following its ‘15 in 15’ launch strategy, Mercedes is planning to introduce the new Maybach S600 limo in India. As per the current rumours, the new Maybach will go sale in India on September 25, 2015. The Mercedes-Maybach S600 will be the 12th model launch in the country by the German luxury car manufacturer this year.

Unlike the Maybach of yesteryears, the new model is not entirely an all-new car. It is infact based around the same basic architecture as that of the new S-Class saloon. The exterior design is similar to the S-Class, save for a few tidbits like Maybach monikers on the outside and new design alloy wheels. Also, the Maybach nameplate is no more a standalone brand as it used to be. Instead, the new Maybach models now come branded as Mercedes-Maybach.

While the Maybach S600 shares its platform with the S-Class, it’s longer by almost 200mm than the S-Class LWB (long wheelbase) version. This has resulted in a more spacious cabin not only in comparison to the standard S-Class but, also the old Maybach 57. In addition to that, the interior has also been freshly designed with a more opulent leather upholstery, shiny metal bits and polished wooden inserts. Mercedes claims it to be the ‘World’s Quietest Production Saloon'.

Mercedes will be offering a unique range of customisation options in the Maybach S600. These options will be available for the interiors of the car so as to maintain the individuality of the luxury limousine.

Standard equipment on the car includes Magic Body Control (although that'll not be offered in India), Night View Assist Plus, warmth and comfort package, heated windshield, Driver Assistance Package, head-up display, LED intelligent lighting system, Burmester 3D, surround-sound system, executive rear seat package, rear seat entertainment system and air balance package.

Thanks to its stretched footprint and the extra bit of kit, the Mercedes-Maybach S600 has gained around 150kg of weight over the standard model. That is, however, going to be of little worry since the Maybach S600 comes powered by a 6.0-litre, twin-turbo, V12 petrol motor developing 530PS and 830 Nm. Mated to a 7G-Tronic Plus automatic gearbox channeling power to the rear wheels, the Maybach S600 is capable of dismissing the 0-100km/h mark in under 5 seconds in a hushed and cossetting manner.

Since the Mercedes-Maybach S600 is essentially a S-Class underneath with more features, space and luxury, it is inevitably going to command a premium over the standard model. Expect Mercedes to put a price-tag of approx. Rs 2 crore - Rs 2.2 crore (ex-showroom) on its new luxo-barge for India.
