The AMG GT-R is likely to get its power from the GT's 4.0-litre, twin-turbocharged, V8 mill that will generate a maximum power of around 550PS. The power figures are much greater than the current GT-S model that makes around 503PS. The engine will come mated to a revised seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

As the car will be light in weight and will have a boost in power, it will sprint from 0-100kmpl in just 3.6 seconds or lower than the GT-S that takes 3.7 seconds. The car's top speed will remain at 310kmpl.

It will be a track-focused car, this means the automaker will improve the aerodynamics of the GT-R and it will come equipped with a stiffer suspension setup. Mercedes will also shed some weight of the GT-R as the manufacturer will use lightweight carbon fiber material. The car will also feature aggressive-looking front splitter, front canards, fixed rear wing and a bit wider fenders. Other equipment like meatier tyres, bigger wheels and disc brakes are also expected to get revised to differentiate the GT-R from the GT model.

The upcoming Mercedes-AMG GT-R will rival against the likes of Aston Martin Vantage GT12, Porsche 911 GT3, Chevrolet Corvette Z06 and Nissan GT-R NISMO in the segment. It is expected that Mercedes-Benz will debut the AMG GT-R at the 2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed in June, while the car will hit the showrooms in European markets in 2017.
