The Maruti Suzuki Ignis is set to go on sale in India on January 13, 2017, and it is making headlines with every passing day. We revealed the Ignis’ official fuel-efficiency figures yesterday and confirmed its technical specifications for the Indian market. Little did we know that it betters the current-best fuel-efficiency numbers of the Maruti Suzuki Dzire. (List of most fuel-efficient automatic cars in India)
Until the Ignis launches in India, the Dzire will remain the most economical diesel automatic car with a claimed fuel efficiency of 26.59kmpl. The Ignis diesel with AMT transmission is supposed to deliver 26.80kmpl, which is slightly more than the Dzire’s figure. The Ignis will get the same 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine that powers the DZire, and even the 5-speed AMT transmission is the same in both cars. The Dzire diesel weighs about 100kg more than the Ignis which may have been the reason behind the marginal improvement in fuel-efficiency figure.
The Ignis will be one of the few cars under Rs 10 lakh to get an auto box with both petrol and diesel engines. It can be booked online (here's how) as well as at any Nexa dealership in India. It is expected to fall in the Rs 4.5 lakh-Rs 7 lakh bracket.
