Indo-Japanese carmaker Maruti Suzuki will unveil the XL6 multipurpose vehicle (MPV) from its Nexa range of dealerships tomorrow. The company is branding the XL6 has a premium vehicle and will be available in only two trims, Alpha and Zeta. Both will be petrol-powered cars with diesel not being offered as an option. Both the Alpha and Zeta will get optional automatic transmission (AT). Bookings for the XL6 are already underway on the company’s website and at Nexa showrooms for an amount of ₹11,000.

The XL6 will be hauled by a 1.5-litre K15B motor with a mild hybrid system borrowed from the Ertiga. The four-cylinder motor produces 138Nm peak torque along with 105PS maximum power. The engine conforms to the upcoming BS-VI emission standard. The XL6, according to the company, returns a mileage of 19.01kmpl and 17.99kmpl on the manual and AT versions respectively.

The XL6 MPV has an all-round rugged cladding, a redesigned blacked-out fascia, and LED headlamps with daytime running lights (DRLs). The car runs on a new set of alloy wheels. The interior of the XL6 has been largely retained from the Ertiga with an identical dashboard layout albeit with silver accents and a darker trim. The cabin gets second row captain seats which makes the XL6 essentially a six-passenger car. The interior has leatherette upholstery.

Features being offered on the XL6 include a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment display system with the SmartPlay Studio. The latter, until now, was being offered only with the new Baleno and WagonR. The XL6 will also have cruise control. The safety kit of the new car will include dual airbags and antilock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake force distribution (EBD) as standard. The AT models are expected to get electronic stability control and hill-hold assist.

The XL6 is expected to be priced between ₹9.5 lakh to ₹11.2 lakh. While the Ertiga will be its in-house rival, the XL6 will also lock horns with the Mahindra Marazzo and Renault Lodgy.
