Maruti Suzuki To Launch Ertiga-based MPV This Year

  • Feb 21, 2019

Maruti Suzuki is planning to launch an MPV based on the second-gen Ertiga this year. The new MPV will be introduced with Nexa badge, hence you can expect it to be more premium than the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, which retails from the Maruti Arena range of dealerships. Although it will be based on the Ertiga, according to sources, the company will ensure the two MPVs do not look identical.

The new Nexa MPV will come with features like leather upholstery, LED headlamps with daytime running lights, cruise control, and new alloys. No doubt, the new Ertiga-based MPV will be sportier and more feature-loaded than any other model in the segment. It will come with 6-seat layout. Further, you can expect Maruti to add and change a fair bit from the inside as well.

The powertrains will be shared with the Ertiga, which will soon be available with the new 1.5-litre diesel engine that churns out a max power of 95PS, mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The new diesel engine pumps out 5PS more power than the current 1.3-litre engine sourced from Fiat.

The outgoing Ertiga is in its second generation that was launched in the last quarter of the previous year. It is available to buy in the price range of Rs 7.44 lakh to Rs 10.9 lakh. We expect the new Nexa Ertiga to retail in a higher price bracket, starting Rs 8.5 lakh going up to Rs 12 lakh for the top-end variant (all prices ex-showroom Delhi).

Once launched, the Ertiga-based MPV will compete against the likes of the Mahindra Marazzo in terms of both features as well as price. Stay tuned with us for more updates.
