Maruti Suzuki To Discontinue 2018 Ertiga LDi

  • Mar 05, 2019

Maruti Suzuki will discontinue the base diesel variant (LDi) of the second-gen Ertiga, which was launched last year in November along with other petrol and diesel variants, namely L, V, Z, and Z+. The Maruti Suzuki Ertiga features a starting price of Rs 7.44 lakh that goes up to Rs 10.90 lakh (both prices ex-showroom Delhi) for the range-topping variant.

The news of discontinuation of the 2018 base diesel Ertiga comes to light when the automaker sent emails to authorized dealerships across the country to stop accepting bookings for the Ertiga LDi starting 1 March 2019. The email also mentioned that the model will be discontinued on 1 April 2019.

The move from automaker is not only surprising but confusing because it does not have any plans to introduce the new 1.5-litre diesel engine in the base Ertiga variant. So now the Ertiga VDi will be the starting diesel variant available to buy.

On the engine front, the 1.3-litre diesel engine sourced from Fiat produces 90PS of max power and 200Nm of peak torque, mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. On the other hand, the new 1.5-litre engine pumps out a max power of 95.1PS and a peak torque of 225Nm, coupled with the 6-speed manual gearbox.

The Ertiga VDi is available at a starting price of Rs 9.56 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), which is Rs 72,000 more than the Ertiga LDi. However, talking about the competition, the Ertiga VDi is Rs 43,000 less expensive than the Mahindra Marazzo, which retails at a starting price of Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

There hasn’t been any alteration on the availability of the Ertiga petrol variants, LXi, VXi, ZXi, and ZXi+, and you are free to book and buy any of these. The Ertiga LXi retails at a price of Rs 7.44 lakh (Ex-showroom Delhi), while the top ZXi+ petrol variant is available at Rs 9.49 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
