Maruti Suzuki S-Presso Rear Design Spotted

  • Sep 09, 2019

The Maruti Suzuki S-Presso compact hatchback is expected to be introduced later this month, and ahead of its official launch, a leaked image has revealed the car’s rear design. Compared to the Future S concept vehicle on which it is based, the S-Presso has a flat-looking rear styling, even though the windscreen at the back is a bit stacked up.

The car gets a chunky black back bumper, which is positioned high up to lend more ground clearance. The taillights have a squared-off, conventional design but look different from the Alto.

The upcoming car from the Indo-Japanese manufacturer has rear deflectors on the back wheel arch design. They are similar to the car’s front-end styling. The leaked images have also revealed a blacked-out B-pillar. It’s not a part of the standard car and is likely to be offered in the top-end trims of the S-Presso.

Overall, the S-Presso looks like a more muscular WagonR, with a rather boxy stance. Some of the design cues, however, are shared from the Vitara Brezza. It has a slim-looking front grille. The S-Presso measures 3,565mm in length, 1,520mm in width, and 1,564 in height.

Maruti Suzuki has not yet revealed the interior specifications of the S-Presso. Reports suggest that the car is expected to be hauled by a 1.0-litre, BS-VI petrol motor which produces 68bhp and 90Nm peak torque. The 3-cylinder engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual gear system while an automated manual transmission (AMT) may be available as an option. A compressed natural gas (CNG) version of the car is also expected later.

The company is likely to position its new compact hatchback to compete with the Renault Kwid. The S-Presso may command an ex-showroom starting price of ₹9 lakh and would be positioned below the Celerio, alongside Alto K10. It will also lock horns with the Tata Tiago and Datsun Redi GO.
