With the launch of first ever premium crossover, the S-Cross, Maruti Suzuki also brought to the foray the promise of a premium buying experience for its customers. The pricing kept the S-Cross from seeing the success it deserved. The company soon launched the Baleno and not only priced it right but also corrected the S-Cross' sticker, which helped get more buyers flocking to the Nexa dealerships.

Then, it was just a matter of time before the Nexa line planted its roots across the nation. The 200th, and the latest to join the chain, was inaugurated today in Hyderabad by the company's executive director of marketing and sales, R S Kalsi.

The manufacturer has set big targets and aims to sell 20 lakh cars through the Nexa line by 2020. The chain is expected to expand to 250 outlets before the end of FY 2016-17 while touching the two-lakh-delivery milestone. It doesn't look impossible by any means, now that the Ignis too shares the showroom floor with the Baleno and the S-Cross.

The small car starts at Rs 4.59 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) making it the most affordable car to be sold through Nexa. Maruti Suzuki has its hopes set on the Ignis' shoulders as well to achieve the targets. We are impressed by the little hatchback as it offers a complete package with no deal breakers.

The price tag of Rs 7.8 lakh for the top trim appears to be the only major fault we can find with the car. The fact that after considering the ongoing discounts, you can buy the Ciaz VDi+ for the same money as the Ignis Alpha diesel, makes the small car look horribly overpriced. The deliberate attempt to physically keep the Ignis away from the value-for-money Ciaz should work in Nexa's favour.

On a positive note, the carmaker deserves full points for lucratively pricing the Ignis' Sigma petrol variant, which doesn't skimp on any major safety feature.
