Maruti Makes 1 Lakh Dzire In Five Months Since Launched

The much-improved car has created a record that no other manufacturer can break in the foreseeable future

New Dzire 2017

The popularity of the Maruti Suzuki Dzire has seen new heights since the new car went on sale. The Indo-Japanese carmaker has improved almost all of the shortcomings seen in the second generation sedan including the design. Thanks to the updates, the carmaker is able to strengthen its foothold in the segment. According to the September factory dispatches, the Dzire controlled almost three-fourths of the compact sedan market while rest of the competition settles with a quarter of the sales, combined.

Exactly five months since the third-generation Dzire went on sale, the country's favourite sedan managed to hit the one lakh production milestone creating a record. The demand was high, and the numbers were only limited because of the output capacity as the carmaker was still in the process of scaling up. If Maruti had decided to initiate production only after attaining full capability, the same feat would've taken no more than three months.

New Dzire 2017

The new Dzire has brought along several changes, the most prominent of all being the design. The new car looks handsome and proportional while still complying with the sub-4m length restrictions for its class. On the feature front, the car is available with safety features as standard making the Maruti Suzuki Dzire a safe choice, literally. The addition of daytime running lights, LED projector headlamps, LED taillamps and a touchscreen infotainment system to the top trims makes it even more attractive, even if it costs a bit more. The carmaker also decided to offer an automatic transmission of the cost-effective AMT variety, which is available with the petrol as well as diesel powertrains and in three of the four variants.

Factor in the colours, variants, powertrains and transmission choices and you're most likely to end up with something that's very unique as there are 84 total combinations to choose from. With big risks, though, come bigger rewards as potential buyers now have fewer reasons to turn down the Dzire in favour of something else.

New Dzire

To make the package more appealing, Maruti Suzuki decided to continue the production of the second-generation car, which now caters to the commercial sector and is rebranded as the Dzire Tour. The new model, meanwhile, is available only for individual buyers. The carmaker is probably going to continue hitting home runs as it has the next-generation Swift, Celerio X and the Ciaz facelift in the pipeline.
