Maruti Suzuki has launched the refreshed version of the Alto K10 with prices starting at Rs. 3.06 lakh. The Alto K10 is a more powerful version of the standard Alto 800 that the company offers in the entry-level hatchback segment in India. Powered by the same 1.0 litre K-series engine from the older car, the new Alto K10 has now been a given a new lease of life with an array of exterior updates along with refreshed interiors, all of which combined make the car look more upbeat than before.

In the company of new competition, the previous gen Alto K10 was starting to look dated and left out. Sharing the same body-shell and underpinnings from the Alto 800, the face-lifted Alto K10 now looks remarkably similar to the standard car. Apart from the basic design theme as of the Alto 800, the new K10 features redesigned swept-back headlamps, a new grille and a new front bumper as compared to the outgoing K10. Around the rear, similarities with the Alto 800 are more pronounced, although, the tail lamps are newly designed and the car has a squatter looking tailgate that sports a chrome strip running at the bottom.

Among other visual updates, the ORVM covers are similar to those on the Celerio, which is a nice-touch. The side profile remains unchanged and the 'wavefront' design and other design elements like the prominent crease under the windows, the slightly flared wheel-arches and the kink at the bottom continue to be featured.

On stepping inside, you notice the drab and dull old interiors of the previous Alto K10 have been junked and revamped thoroughly in the new car. The dashboard layout sports a completely new design theme and comes in a black-and-beige combo. The top part of the dashboard, finished in black, houses the the A/C vents, a small cubby-hole, multimedia system and the instrument cluster whereas the lower part beige section has a glove-box and A/C controls integrated on to it. The three-spoke steering wheel has evolved from the outgoing car which now looks more upmarket with silver accents on it.

The centre console features an integrated 2-DIN multimedia system. The instrument cluster looks modern and features a three-pod design with a functional tachometer. The instrument cluster comes equipped with driver information display, which gives readouts for digital fuel-levels, digital odo- and trip-meter.

Mechanically, the new Alto K10 does not get any upgrades. It sources power from the same 1.0-litre K-series petrol engine that develops 68PS @ 6,200 rpm and 90 Nm @ 3,500 rpm. This engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, while an AMT transmission based around the same gearbox is also offered. With the AMT being offered in the Alto K10, it will now become the most affordable automatic car in the country.

The new Alto K10 has an ARAI certified fuel efficiency figure of 24.07 km/l for both manual and AMT versions.

The new Alto K10 is also available in CNG. The petrol engine, when driven on CNG mode, develops a healthy 59PS of power at 6,000rpm and 78Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm.

The Alto K10 face-lift will be available in 4 trim variants, namely- LX, LXi, VXi and VXi (Optional). Of the four, the LXi  is the only variant that is  available with a company fitted CNG. The AMT gearbox, or AGS (Auto Gear Shift) as it's called in the K10, is only offered in the VXi trim. The top-end VXi (O) will come with a driver-side airbag.
