Mahindra To Launch XUV300 AMT This Month

  • Jun 06, 2019

Leading Indian automobile manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra is all set to launch the automatic manual transmission (AMT) version of the XUV300 this month.

The XUV300 subcompact sports utility vehicle (SUV), since its debut on 14 February, has been on sale sans any automatic transmission option. The AMT system will be sourced from Italian automotive parts manufacturer Magneti Marelli.

The AMT version of the Mahindra XUV300 W8(O) was spotted testing some months back. Recently, the mid-specification W6 version of the SUV was also revealed in a detailed video. The latter version has a 6-speed AMT system. The AMT model of the XUV300 is likely to be available both in diesel and petrol engine versions, except the entry-level W4 model.

That aside, Mahindra is likely to unveil a new model of the XUV300 subcompact SUV with a more powerful turbocharged gasoline direct injection (T-GDI) engine later this year. The new engine will be able to produce more power and torque than the existing multi-point fuel injection (MPFI) motor. The powerful 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine will be BS-VI compliant from the beginning. The engine will be mated to a 6-speed manual gear system with the AMT coming as an option.

The current XUV300 petrol car is hauled by a three-cylinder, 1.2-litre motor which produces 110PS maximum power and 200Nm peak torque. The diesel version is hauled by a four-cylinder, 1.5-litre engine which outputs 115PS maximum power and 300Nm peak torque. Both motors are mated to a 6-speed manual transmission system.

The XUV300 AMT model is expected to command a premium of ₹60,000-70,000 over the manual gear option. The SUV’s ex-showroom price currently ranges from ₹7.90-11.99 lakh. The XUV300 AMT, when launched will compete with the Maruti Vitara Brezza AMT, Tata Nexon AMT, Ford EcoSport petrol automatic transmission (AT) and the Hyundai Venue petrol AT.
