Mahindra & Ssangyong updates at Auto Expo 2014: A lot happened!

Mahindra and Mahindra had a busy first day at the Auto Expo as the automaker unveiled the XUV500 Hybrid, Formula E racer, Quanto autoSHIFT and various portfolio across product categories, termed as 'Accessible Technology'.

Mahindra XUV500 hybrid

The cross section of the XUV500 Hybrid with a transparent acrylic body demonstrates the company's prowess in Hybrid Technology. The car is claimed to have 18% better fuel economy than the normal variant and is the first manual diesel hybrid in the world.

The XUV Hybrid employs a permanent magnet synchronous motor and Li-ion battery. The electric motor assists the IC engine at low speeds and while accelerating. It also features regenerative braking.

Mahindra Thar Midnight Edition

The Mahindra Adventure Zone housed the ASEAN XUV500 which was prepped for the ASEAN rally, Super XUV (INRC racer) and Thar Midnight Edition.

Mahindra Quanto autoSHIFT

Also on display was the Quanto autoSHIFT automatic transmission with Yoga rear seats. The autoSHIFT is a 5-speed transmission developed by Ricardo which combines the strengths of manual and automatic gearboxes.

Ssangyong Rodius

Mahindra's South Korean subsidiary Ssangyong debuted its generously proportioned Rodius MPV and the LIV-1 Concept crossover (Limitless Interface Vehicle).

The automaker announced that the market study for Rodius in underway. With a 2.0-litre 155PS diesel motor and enough interior space to carry a big Indian family, the Rodius seems like a sensible product for the sub-continent. The LIV-1, one of Ssangyong's many design concepts in the recent times, portrays the brand's product development capabilities.

Mahindra's electric vehicle arm Reva showcased the electric Maxximo and Verito. The next gen fast charging technology called 'Quick2Charge' which can charge an e2o fully in 60 minutes was also exhibited.

Mahindra Formula E car

The Spark-Renault SRT_01E Formula E racer in Mahindra Racing livery was easily the attention magnet at M&M's stall. Mahindra will participate in the FIA sponsored inaugural Formula-E Championship which is set to start in September 2014.
