Mahindra Scorpio Facelift Spied Ahead Of Nov 14 Unveil

  • Nov 10, 2017

We'll find out in four days what its maker has in store for us

The Mahindra Scorpio is ready for a facelift and perhaps a few mechanical updates as well. We recently spotted a camouflaged Scorpio and were able to get a good look at the grill. The pic reveals that the SUV will lose the vertical slats for a new design. The new pattern is similar to what we see on the Imperio pickup. The front bumper is in for a makeover as well but it's difficult to see the changes underneath the wraps.

The SUV is available with a 2.5-litre, 2.2-litre and a 2.0-litre diesel engine, all of which come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. We may see the carmaker drop the 2.5-litre engine from the lineup as it's only available in the base variant. The 2.2-litre engine may get a power boost for higher variants while the same engine could continue to serve lower trims with a lower power output. The 2.2-litre engine currently makes 120PS and 280Nm. The same engine powers the XUV500 and makes 140PS and 330Nm under the hood of the larger SUV.

Mahindra Scorpio Adventure Edition

A few months ago, Mahindra had discontinued the automatic variants of the Scorpio due to poor demand. The carmaker may introduce an AMT unit to satisfy the needs of city-dwellers. There's also a possibility that the brand that has survived on its torquey diesel engines may introduce a petrol model. There is a gradual shift in buyer's preferences, resulting in the drop in diesel vehicles' market share. Besides, the KUV100's petrol variants have also shown strong demand and a petrol-powered Scorpio may unlock the hidden potential of this legend.

On the tech side, the car may benefit from the addition of smartphone-friendly Android Auto and Apple CarPlay user interfaces. The carmaker will reveal more about the SUV on November 14.
