Mahindra Launches More Affordable XUV500 Model

  • May 13, 2019

Indian indigenous automobile manufacturer Mahindra & Mahindra, has launched a new entry-level version of the XUV500, making the sports utility vehicle (SUV) more affordable to customers. The new model—W3—will be available from the company’s dealerships all across the country.

Announcing the launch of the W3, the company’s sales and marketing chief (automotive division), Veejay Ram Nakra said that the XUV500 has ushered in the premium SUV segment in India. The car has set new benchmarks with head-turning design and unmatched features that offer thrilling performance. The XUV500 W3 version will help reach the SUV to more number of buyers. He expressed confidence in the vehicle’s success.

The W3 commands an ex-showroom price of INR12.31 lakh which is INR59,000 less than the W5 version, the earlier entry-level model of the XUV500. The W3 will be hauled by the same 2.2-litre diesel motor which produces 155PS maximum power and 360Nm peak torque. The four-cylinder engine is mated to a 6-speed gear system.

The XUV500 W3 model has dual front airbags and all-wheel disc brakes. That aside, the car has projector headlamps and electronically adjustable outside rear view mirrors (ORVMs). Being a more reasonably priced vehicle, the W3 misses out on the audio system with 6-inch monochrome display unit, as well as Bluetooth and USB connectivity. The steel wheels don’t have the full-wheel caps like the W5 model. The W3 rolls on the same 17-inch wheels like the W5 and has identical interior upholstery. But with three rows of seats, the XUV500 W3 is now the most affordable car in its segment and undercuts the entry-level Tata Harrier XE by around INR47,000.

The XUV500 W3, at its price point, will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza ZDi+++, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga ZDi, Renault Duster RXS CVT, Nissan Kicks, Hyundai Creta, and the Tata Nexon XZ Plus diesel.
