After launching the ES300h sedan, RX450h and the LX450d SUVs, it's time for the more affordable NX300h to shine under the spotlight. The addition of another SUV to the Lexus' India lineup brings its total count of its luxury offerings to four. The NX is the most affordable SUV in the Japanese luxury carmaker's portfolio and will carry a starting price tag of about Rs 60 lakh (ex-showroom). The exact pricing will be announced in due course of time before the deliveries, which are set to commence early in 2018.

The NX300h carries the aggressive front fascia that's instantly recognisable as a Lexus car. Not everyone is going to find the character attractive, but the sharp grille design and the L-shaped daytime running lights help it effortlessly standout in the crowd. Exterior features include triple LED headlights and an electrically-operated sunroof. Inside, there's a 2-zone climate control, 10-way power-adjustable front seats and 10.3-inch infotainment system. The infotainment system does not get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto because Toyota and Lexus aren't keen on letting the Silicon Valley giants collect their customers' data.

In the international markets, the smallest Lexus SUV competes against the Audi Q3, BMW X1 and Mercedes-Benz GLA but its ~Rs 60 lakh price point in India makes it GLE, Q7 and X5 competitor. That's down to the import duties and the lack of subsidies for hybrids. But, Lexus is considering setting up an assembly plant to help bring the price down. Currently, the carmaker has four dealerships across the country, one each in Delhi, Gurgaon, Mumbai and Bengaluru. A more affordable crossover should help the brand expand its reach to more cities shortly.
