Launched — Skoda Octavia RS

  • Sep 01, 2017

Skoda has launched the performance version of the Octavia sedan called the Octavia RS at Rs 24.63 lakh (ex-showroom). It now becomes the most expensive variant in the Octavia lineup, which starts at Rs 15.49 lakh and tops out at Rs 22.9 lakh.

The RS gets a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol motor with direct injection, which makes 230PS of power and 350Nm of torque. It comes paired with a quick-shifting 6-speed dual clutch transmission allowing it to sprint to 100kmph in just 6.7 seconds from a standstill. The other two petrol engines displace 1.4-litre and 1.8-litre and make 80PS and 50PS less than the RS. The torque in both the cars is limited to 250Nm as their 7-speed dual clutch gearbox is not capable of handling any more twist.

Its 225/45 R17 shoes are wider and lower profile, thus adding more grip for better acceleration and tighter turns. The regular Octavia gets 205-section tyres and 16-inch alloys. Other features of the RS include a new set of machined 17-inch alloys, a boot-mounted spoiler, vRS badging, aggressively-styled bumpers, red brake callipers and dual exhausts. Inside, it gets an all black cabin with Alcantara leather wrapped around the flat-bottom steering wheel, gear knob and upholstery. The Octavia RS is available in red, blue, white and grey shades.

The Skoda Octavia RS has no direct competition, but it tries to offer top end performance for a reasonable price along with decent cabin space, top quality fit, finish and build. All of these traits are sure to sway at least a few buyers away from entry-level luxury offerings.
