Launched — Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 Coupe

  • Jul 21, 2017

Mercedes-AMG has launched the GLC 43 Coupe in India at Rs 74.8 lakh (ex-showroom). The carmaker is also celebrating 50 years of the brand AMG. Like all other AMGs, the GLC 43 will also be brought in India as a CBU. The GLC 43 Coupe is based on the GLC SUV. However, its coupe-like styling and the reworked rear end lend it an entirely unique character compared to the regular GLC.

The latest AMG gets a 3.0-litre V6 bi-turbo engine that makes 367PS of maximum power and 520Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated with Merc’s 9G-Tronic transmission with double declutching function during downshifts that quickens the gear changes. The GLC 43 Coupe can hit 100kmph from a standstill in 4.9 seconds.

The AMG touches on the GLC 43 include AMG Ride Control suspension setup, 19-inch AMG alloy wheels, a black cabin theme with red topstitching, and much more.

The regular GLC SUV gets two engine options in India – a 2.0-litre petrol and a 2.1-litre diesel. The petrol engine is more powerful of the two and makes 245PS of maximum power. It is also paired with the 9G-Tronic transmission, but it's slower at sprinting to 100kmph than the AMG by 1.6 seconds and costs Rs 50.37 lakh (ex-showroom).

The GLC 43 Coupe is Mercedes-Benz’ eighth new product in India this year and third from the AMG line. It’s, however, not the first time that Mercedes-Benz has launched an AMG-version in coupe body style of a regular SUV in India. The company already retails the GLE 43 Coupe, which launched early in 2016 with the GLE 450 AMG badge. It was later renamed as per the new naming convention and now sits under the Mercedes-AMG umbrella. The launch of GLC 43 Coupe brings the total count of AMG cars in India into double digits.
