For all that extra cladding on the CelerioX, Maruti Suzuki charges only a modest premium over the regular Celerio

Maruti Suzuki has launched the CelerioX with a starting price of Rs 4.57 lakh for the VXi variant with a manual transmission. Here's the ex-showroom Delhi price list:

  • VXi MT: Rs 4.57 lakh

  • VXi AMT: Rs 5.00 lakh

  • VXi (O) MT: Rs 4.72 lakh

  • VXi (O) AMT: Rs 5.15 lakh

  • ZXi MT: Rs 4.82 lakh

  • ZXi AMT: Rs 5.25 lakh

  • ZXi (O) MT: Rs 5.31 lakh

  • ZXi (O) AMT: Rs 5.43 lakh

Crossovers and hatchbacks with thick black cladding and high ground clearance have a strong demand. In that regard, the CelerioX partially delivers with aggressive cladding all around but retains the 165mm of ground clearance similar to its non-X brethren. All that feeling of additional ruggedness and black interior cost about Rs 8,000 more than comparable variants of the Celerio. The clever paint job around the front and rear bumpers along with the door cladding trick our brains into believing that the CelerioX offers more than Rs 8,000 worth of kit.

Features and specifications remain the same as the Celerio. The 1.0-litre engine is intact, which makes 68PS of power and 90Nm of torque. There's a choice of 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT gearbox.

Standard features of the CelerioX include day-night mirror, manual air conditioner, central locking, front and rear power windows, internally-adjustable mirrors and a driver-side airbag. The passenger-side airbag, ABS and front seatbelts with pre-tensioners and force limiters are available with the VXi (O) and ZXi (O) variants.

The price tags suggest that the carmaker wants us to buy the AMT-equipped top-end ZXi (O) variant of the CelerioX. The automatic variants are Rs 43,000 more expensive than their manual counterparts except in case of the ZXi (O) variant. Opting for the automatic transmission with the top variant adds just Rs 12,000 to the price tag.
