Skoda Octavia Facelift 2017Skoda has launched the 2017 Octavia facelift with a starting price tag of Rs 15,49,405 (ex-showroom). The D-segment sedan combines spacious cabin, punchy powertrains and a fit-and-finish that can rival the German luxury brands.

Skoda Octavia 2017 faceliftThe face is new, and sports split LED headlights flanking the gloss black grille. Rest of the shell remains identical to the outgoing car. Inside, the car gets a larger 8-inch touchscreen compared to the previous car's 6.5-inch unit. It gets Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for smartphone connectivity. There's also a new Skoda Media Command app to remotely control the infotainment system. Customisable ambient lighting adds a cosmetic touch. The newly-added automatic parking system makes it a cinch to perpendicular or parallel park the sedan.

On the safety side, the new Octavia gets multi-collision mitigation and driver fatigue alert. Other safety features on the top trim include eight airbags, ABS, tyre pressure monitoring system, electronic stability control, outside mirror defogger, adaptive LED lights, and static cornering lights.

Skoda Octavia facelift 2017Powertrain options start off with a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which is available only with a 6-speed manual transmission. It produces 150PS of power and 250Nm of torque while delivering 16.7kmpl. The more powerful 1.8-litre turbocharged petrol engine comes paired with a 7-speed dual clutch automatic. It makes 180PS of power, 250Nm of torque and 15.1kmpl of mileage. On the diesel side, there's the familiar 2.0-litre turbocharged engine with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed dual clutch automatic. It pumps out 143PS of power and 320Nm of torque while promising 21kmpl with the manual transmission and 19.5kmpl with the automatic. The car measures 4670mm long, 1814mm wide and 1476mm tall with a wheelbase of 2688mm. The massive boot space measures 1580 with the rear seats are flipped down and 590 litres with the backrests upright.

The facelift should Skoda help counter the strengthening competition from the updated Toyota Corolla Altis and the Hyundai Elantra in its category.
