Lamborghini has launched the convertible version of its entry-level Huracan sportscar in the country. The Huracan Spyder LP610-4 ditches the coupe's hard-roof for a soft-top which stows away electronically when desired. The Huracan Spyder continues from where the Gallardo Spyder left off - as one of the most successful convertible sportscar in the company's history. The Huracan coupe - in the LP610-4 and the LP580-2 versions - have become popular among those who can afford such cars in India, which has led the company to offer the Huracan Spyder here so soon.

The Lamborghini Huracan Spyder LP610-4 is 110kg heavier than its coupe variant - reinforcements have had to be made to compensate for the loss of the hard-top  and the electrohydraulically controlled fabric roof takes 17 seconds to deploy/stow away. Apart from the added bracing and roll-over protection devices, the Huracan Spyder is practically the same as the coupe - it is powered by a 5.2-litre naturally-aspirated V10 motor developing 610PS of maximum power (that's where the 610 part of its name comes from) and 560Nm of peak torque. Power is sent to all four wheels (the -4 part in the name), through the Lamborghini Doppia Frizione 7-speed dual-clutch transmission and an electronically controlled AWD system.

The Lamborghini Huracan Spyder may be more of a toy than the coupe, but it is no slouch when it comes to performance. The powerful motor, coupled to the quick-shifting transmission, the intelligent AWD system and a mechanical locking rear differential allow the Huracan to accelerate from 0-100kmph in 3.4 seconds, 0-200kmph in 10.2 seconds and go on to a top-speed of 324kmph. Lamborghini claims that the Huracan Spyder can hit the top speed mentioned earlier with the top-down too, though you would be more comfortable doing so with the roof up. You could also slow down to speeds below 50kmph, press one button and get the roof to fold into a special compartment and experience the joys of open-top motoring and the glances of envy and admiration of people around you.
