Fiat-Chrysler is getting ready to bring the Jeep brand in the Indian market in 2016 with two models launching in the first phase. The India-specific website for Jeep is live and takes us through the history of iconic Jeep models. The website starts off showing the Willys and as we scroll down, we see CJ-5 followed by Wagoneer, Cherokee, Cherokee XJ and Grand Cherokee. As we come towards the end, the website shows the 2016 Grand Cherokee and the 2016 Wrangler Unlimited sandwiching the V8-equipped top-of-the-line Grand Cherokee SRT.

We will see the Grand Cherokee and Wrangler Unlimited in flesh at the Delhi Auto Expo in February and in showrooms soon after that. A glimpse of the two SUVs can be had on the website navigating horizontally at the top of the page.

The Jeep brand is also going to be available on major social networks like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram keeping interested Jeep fans and potential customers updated about the latest happenings.

Jeep brand in India has been synonymous with off-roaders manufactured by Mahindra. The iconic Willys, which were extensively used in World War II, was also made by Mahindra after India gained freedom. The manufacturing was done under licence with Willys Motors Inc. primarily for military use.

In the US, the pricing of Jeep Grand Cherokee ranges from $ 29,995 for the base two-wheel drive variant and goes as high as $ 51,995 for the fully-loaded four-wheel drive model. The track-worthy 6.4 litre V8-powered SRT model is sold for $ 64,895 before taxes. Expect the pricing to at least double by the time it hits the showroom floors in India. The luxury SUV has mostly petrol engine options with the exception of the 3.0 litre V6 EcoDiesel engine, which is good for 241 PS of power and 550 Nm of torque. Given our love for the heavier fuel, the 3.0 litre V6 seems like the probable choice for Indian market.

The Wrangler remains the choice of Jeep fans, who want the most capable go-anywhere Jeep and all Wrangler variants get four-wheel drive as standard. The Wrangler Unlimited retails for $ 27,695 for the base model, while the range-topping Hard Rock variant costs $ 41,695. The American market only gets the petrol engine but we might see the 2.8 four-cylinder diesel engine, which dishes out 162 PS of power and 400 Nm of torque.

"It gives us immense pride to launch this iconic Jeep brand in India. Today, FCA embarks on a new expedition in the Indian market and we hope this significant milestone will help us to firmly establish Jeep in India right from the start.

The new Jeep brand positioning on the website reflects an ambition to expand the marque’s global footprint while staying true to its legacy. Stay tuned to experience more about this exciting brand’s arrival in India in the coming months." - Kevin Flynn, President and Managing Director, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles India
