Jeep Launches Compass Trailhawk SUV In India

  • Jun 26, 2019

Jeep has launched the most extreme version of its Compass sports utility vehicle (SUV)—the Trailhawk—in India at an ex-showroom price of ₹26.8 lakh. The car will be available in two variants. The Jeep Compass has helped Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) to revive the company’s brand name in India.

The Trailhawk looks deceptively similar to the Jeep Compass standard version. But it gets a raised ground clearance, reworked bumpers for better approaching and departure angles, and improved water wading capability. Jeep has added all-terrain tyres, undercarriage skid plates, and all-weather floor mats to lend a more off-road feel to the Trailhawk. That aside, the Compass Trailhawk has 17-inch alloy wheels, replacing the 18-inch ones on the Compass Limited Plus model, to help in better off-road driving.

The Trailhawk is hauled by a 2.0-litre diesel motor similar to that of the Compass standard. But the engine is now BS-VI compliant and produces 350Nm peak torque and 170PS maximum power. The engine of the all-wheel-drive car is mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission system. While the Compass standard also has an all-wheel-drive system, the Trailhawk has a mechanically lockable unit which calculates the exact power needed to be dispatched to a particular wheel. This helps in a more refined off-road handling.

The interior of the Trailhawk has been retained from the Jeep Compass standard version. It sports an all-black cabin with red accents. The updated features list includes an 8.4-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, and built-in navigation. The car has cruise control modes, engine start-stop function, hill descent control, and a 7-inch MID system.

The Compass Trailhawk, however, misses out on features like automatic wipers and headlamps and powered front seats that are available on the Limited Plus version. The optional version of the Trailhawk gets a panoramic sunroof.
