  • Apr 18, 2019

Hyundai, the leading Korean automobile manufacturer, has finally unveiled its global sub-compact sports utility vehicle (SUV) at the 2019 New York Auto Show. The bike is also headed for India and is slated for a 21 May launch.

The new Hyundai car will be available in three engine options. It will be mainly hauled by a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol motor which produces 120PS maximum power and 12Nm peak torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission system. A new dual-clutch 7-speed gear system, developed in-house, would also be available with this engine. The other petrol option will be the 1.2-lite motor which hauls Hyundai’s popular Grand i10 and Elite i20 cars. The engine produces 83PS maximum power and 115Nm peak torque and is paired with a 5-speed manual gear system.

The Venue has a new dashboard layout compared to other Hyundai cars sold in India. The Venue model showcased at the New York Auto Show had a full black interior. The AC vents had silver bezels around them. The steering wheel has been redesigned. The controls on the steering have been updated and the central console is divided into neat sections. The infotainment screen is placed on the top, flanked by the AC vents. The climate control unit is housed in the middle section. The bottom row has the facility to plug in a wireless charger.

The styling of the Hyundai Venue, at the rear, is clean. The shoulder line runs across the lid of the boot. The company has added the ‘Turbo’ insignia in red lettering for the various models of the car pulled by the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. The LED taillights have a rather conventional design. The Venue will be Hyundai’s first sub-compact SUV in India. It will compete with the Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Vtara Brezza, and the Ford EcoSport in its class.
