Leading South Korean automobile manufacturer Hyundai Motor Company has revealed the Grand i10 Nios crossover hatchback which is all set to be launched in India and elsewhere across the globe on 20 August. The Nios is the third-generation model in the i10 lineage. The company has claimed that the ‘Nios’ suffix stands for more features, space, and performance. The new car will co-exist with the present generation Grand i10 and will be positioned below the i20. Hyundai has already opened bookings for the Grand i10 Nios for a token amount of ₹11,000.

The Hyundai Grand i10 Nios is likely to retain the same 1.2-litre Kappa petrol and 1.2-litre diesel motor from the current version. The petrol engine outputs 84PS maximum power. Both engines are expected to be BS-VI compliant and will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard, while an automated manual transmission (AMT) will be available in some trims.

The Grand i10 Nios follows the new Santro’s design language. It has shapely projector headlights that flank the large cascading grille. Angular LED daytime running lights (DRLs) are positioned on the edge of the grille. Other exterior features include a shark fin antenna, two-tone alloy wheels, and chrome door handles.

The interior of the car has a grey-ivory colour scheme, and an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Hyundai BlueLink connectivity. The Grand i10 Nios has an overall textured finish, while some design elements have been borrowed from the recently launched Hyundai Venue, like the steering wheel and air-conditioning vents. Other features comprise powered outside rearview mirrors (ORVMs), steering-mounted controls, semi-digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, and automatic climate control.

The Nios is expected to command an entry-level ex-showroom price of around ₹5 lakh. The top-specification model may be pegged just under ₹8 lakh. The car will lock horns with the Nissan Micra, Ford Figo, and the Maruti Suzuki Ignis and Swift in its segment.
