Leading Korean carmaker Hyundai has launched the Venue subcompact sports utility vehicle (SUV) in India at a starting price of INR6.5 lakh. The top-end model of the car is pegged at INR11.9 lakh.

The Venue is Hyundai’s first car in the burgeoning sub-4m SUV segment in the Indian market. It will compete with the Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300 and the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza in its segment. It was first showcased last month which coincided with the vehicle’s global debut at the 2019 New York Auto Show.

The Hyundai Venue will be available in both diesel and petrol engine options. The 1.2-litre petrol motor will produce 83PS maximum power and 115Nm peak torque. The 1.4-litre diesel engine outputs 90PS maximum power and 174Nm peak torque. Both these engines have been borrowed from the Elite i20 and are mated to either a 5-speed or 6-speed manual transmission system. The 1.0-litre, turbocharged petrol motor is also available as an option. It outputs 120PS maximum power and 22Nm peak torque and can be had with either a 6-speed manual or 7-speed dual clutch gear system.

The Venue conforms to Hyundai’s international market SUVs like the Palisade and the new Santa Fe. The subcompact SUV has projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights (DRLs), a cascading grille with chrome embellishment, projector fog lamps, and high mounted indicators. The vehicle runs on 16-inch sporty alloy wheels, has roof rails, and LED taillights. The car comes in seven exterior paint schemes that include Deep Forest, Lava Orange, and Denim Blue, along with three two-tone colour options.

The Hyundai Venue also marks the debut of the first connected car in the Indian sub-4m SUV segment, courtesy the BlueLink connectivity feature. That aside, the car has 33 connectivity features, including 10 India-specific ones like geo-fencing, destination sharing, cruise control, and others. The 8-inch infotainment touchscreen supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
