Hyundai Grand i10 Nios May Share Venue’s 1.0-Litre Petrol Engine

  • Sep 01, 2019

South Korean automobile Hyundai major recently rolled out the Grand i10 Nios in India at an entry-level ex-showroom price of ₹4.99 lakh. The Nios is yet to be introduced in Europe, though some official sketches of the car has been released, and a sportier-looking N Line version spotted testing. The test car sported a different set of alloy wheels and wider tyres, and dual-exhaust.

The heavily camouflaged Grand i10 Nios N Line features a sportier front grille and large air intakes, compared to the standard Europe-specific model which has been teased in the sketches.

Hyundai India officials, meanwhile, have disclosed to the media that the company may introduce the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol motor in the Nios series in 120PS and 100PS of tuning. The same motor earlier debuted in India with the Venue compact sports utility vehicle (SUV) where its outputs 120PS maximum power at 6,000rpm and 172Nm peak torque. The motor is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox with the 7-speed dual-clutch (DCT) transmission as optional. Hyundai is expected to offer 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol in the Nios N Line with 100PS maximum power in both transmission options.

The turbocharged motor is expected to raise the price of the Grand i10 Nios N Line by ₹1 lakh over the regular version. The top-specification N Line is expected to be priced at around ₹8.9 lakh for the manual gearbox and close to ₹10 lakh with the DCT.

Hyundai has hinted that it plans to introduce the N Line in India. The company, however, did not confirm whether it will be limited only to the cosmetic changes. There’s a possibility that the N Performance range will be launched later. Even if the N Line debuts with the upcoming next-Generation i20, it is unlikely to be launched in India before 2020.

The Indian hatchback segment is currently dominated by the Maruti Suzuki Swift.
