Hyundai Confirms Aura Launch On December 19

  • Nov 26, 2019

Hyundai Motor India has confirmed that its brand new subcompact sedan Aura will be launched on December 19. While the car was earlier touted to replace the Xcent, Hyundai has now clarified that the Aura will be sold alongside the existing sub-4m sedan. The Xcent, however, is likely to be available only for fleet operators.

The Aura is based on the Grand i10 Nios and will be available in one diesel and two petrol powertrain options. While it will retain the 1.2-litre diesel and petrol units from the Grand i10 Nios, the Aura will also get the turbocharged 1.0-litre petrol unit which hauls the Venue. The latter engine outputs 172Nm peak torque and 100PS maximum power. The Aura, however, won’t be available with the 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). It will get the standard manual gearbox with an optional 5-speed automated manual transmission (AMT). All engines will comply with the BS-VI emission standard to be implemented from April 1.

The Hyundai Aura is likely to retain all the features of the Grand i10 Nios. These include wireless phone charging, a two-tone interior, circular air-conditioning vents, and an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment display unit with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support. It may also get the Hyundai BlueLink connected car technology in the higher models. Exterior styling cues of the Grand i10 Nios to be retained in the Aura include projector headlamps, new LED tail lamps, bumper-mounted number plate, and black accents on the C-pillar.

Sales of the Hyundai Aura are likely to commence at the upcoming Auto Expo. The Hyundai Xcent currently commands an ex-showroom price between ₹5.81 lakh to ₹8.70 lakh. The company is expected to price the Aura between ₹6 lakh to ₹9 lakh. It will be pitted against Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, Volkswagen Ameo, Tata Tigor, and the Honda Amaze in the Indian subcompact sedan segment.
