Five years since its launch in 2011, the Brio has now received its first major cosmetic update. Prices now start from Rs 4.69 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The top variant gets automatic transmission now that is priced at Rs 6.81 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Variant-wise prices (ex-showroom, Delhi) are as follows:

Honda Brio E MT – Rs 4.69 lakh
Honda Brio S MT – Rs 5.20 lakh
Honda Brio VX MT – Rs 5.95 lakh
Honda Brio VX AT – Rs 6.81 lakh

Honda Brio never made it to the top in terms of sales numbers in its segment. It faces stern competition from the likes of Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai Grand i10 and Ford Figo. A cosmetic upgrade might help Brio regain some momentum on the sales charts.

On the outside, there is a new front bumper similar to the one on the Honda Amaze. Chrome front grille makes way for a glossy black grille and the Brio looks sportier this way. Tail lamps are new as well and tailgate gets a spoiler. High-mount stop lamp now gets LED lights.

Honda has done well to offer black interiors on the Brio now and the intent to market it as a sporty hatchback is clearer. Unfortunately, only the top-end Brio gets black interiors while lower variants continue with the beige theme. The dashboard is restyled and is Amaze-like now. Instrument cluster gets triple-analogue, sporty meter illuminated in white colour.

Brio gets a 2-DIN music system now with USB, AUX-In and Bluetooth connectivity. Air con controls are also digital following the Amaze’s layout. Safety features include dual airbags and ABS with EBD, both available on top-trim only.

The Brio continues to be powered by the same 1.2-litre, i-VTEC petrol engine that produces 88PS of maximum power and makes 109Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission but there’s an option of a 5-speed auto box as well in the top spec Brio. The automatic variant is however around Rs 85000 dearer than its manual counterpart. Honda claims 18.5kmpl for manual Brio and 16.5kmpl for the automatic one.

The updated Honda Brio is now available in five colour options - Taffeta White, Alabaster Sliver, Urban Titanium, Rally Red and White Orchid Pearl.

In comparison, Maruti Suzuki Swift petrol prices start at Rs 4.75 lakh. Hyundai Grand i10 petrol prices start from Rs 4.90 lakh for the manual version and Rs 5.96 lakh for the automatic. Ford Figo is the most affordable of the lot with petrol manual Figo starting from Rs 4.53 lakh (all prices are ex-showroom, Delhi).
