Force Gurkha Xtreme Now Available With ABS

  • Apr 16, 2019

Force Motors has silently introduced the antilock braking system (ABS) equipped version of the Gurkha Xtreme to comply with the recent safety norms mandated by the road transport and highways ministry. The new model is priced at INR13.30 lakh and carries a INR31,000 premium over the non-ABS version. The latter was introduced in India at an ex-showroom price of INR12.99.

The Xtreme is the only member in the Gurkha family to be fitted with the ABS. The Xpedition and the Xplorer versions continue to be sold sans the ABS and other safety features.

Besides the ABS, not much has changed in the Gurkha Xtreme. The car is hauled by a 2.2-litre diesel motor which produces 138bhp and 321Nm peak torque. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission system. The entry-level Gurkha is powered by a 2.5-litre diesel motor which outputs 84bhp. The top-end version of the Gurkha Xtreme has a number of additional features that include LED turning indicators, both end new steel bumpers, a thicker footboard, and new outside rear view mirror (OVRM) decals. The off-roader utility vehicle gets a manual differential lock on both the axles, a snorkel, and a protective cover for the engine’s underbelly, propeller shaft joints, and the fuel tank.

The Gurkha Xtreme, however, is available only in the 3-door version. The Xpedition and the Xplorer are available both in 5-door and 3-door versions.

While the Gurkha Xtreme is now available with the ABS, its arch rival Mahindra Thar, continues to miss out on the added safety feature. Mahindra, however is likely to unveil the new Thar early next year. The SUV has already been spotted testing in India. The 2020 Thar is expected to be powered by a new BS-VI compliant diesel engine. It would have new interior and exterior styling, along with government mandated safety features like ABS and airbags.
