How many times in the last week did you hear about the Goodwood Festival of Speed? Certainly, many a times in a day if you follow automobile news regularly. With a final few days left before its commencement (June 26th), the ‘speed’ in its name is still causing much furor among the manufacturers as they can be found trying to add more oomph to their machines.

Being held in the UK, the home-grown manufacturers are far more enthused for the event than anyone else though, especially if we talk about Range Rover. First they launched the Stealth Pack for the Range Rover Sport, and since then they have been teasing us with video clips of the sportier version of the Range Rover Sport. In these videos, the new ‘sportier’ Range Rover Sport is seen blasting around the Nurburgring racetrack for some reason, with the voice over artist dubbing it as the most agile and fastest Range Rover ever!

A tuned-up version of the current range topping 5.0 litre, supercharged V8, is likely to make it under the hood of the new Range Rover Sport with 550PS of power output. In order to live up to Range Rover’s claims of being the fastest and most agile version, the firepower of the engine will be combined with sharper suspension, bigger brakes, and a lower and more aerodynamic body. Range Rover has not officially confirmed the technical specifications of the new vehicle as yet. There’s also no confirmation on what this sportier version of Range Rover Sport will be called. Some say it will be called as the ‘RS’ version but we are happy to wait for that to be revealed, along with other details of the new vehicle in the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

A few weeks ago, Jaguar-Land Rover had announced of launching a Special Vehicle Operations division for their cars. The Special Vehicle Operations is a brand new division that will deal with designing and engineering halo versions of the Jaguar-Land Rover group’s road cars. In addition, the division will also make bespoke versions of their road-going models as per customer’s demands. The new faster, more agile Range Rover Sport is likely to be one of the first few models to come out of this division.

Jaguar-Land Rover group is also working on the Freelander replacement, and the new SUV will be based around the Discovery Vision Concept, which was shown in the New York International show. The group has announced of investing a sum of 200 million pounds at its Halewood facility in the UK to support this project.
