Euro-Spec Honda Vezel to be unveiled in Paris Motor Show

  • Aug 26, 2014

After launching for Asian markets and receiving praiseworthy responses, Honda is going to unveil its applauding compact SUV, the Vezel, for the Europian markets at the Paris Motor Show, which is scheduled to take place in the first week of October. The car was first previewed for the whole world during the Tokyo Motor Show last year. For the Europian and American markets, including some Asian territories like Indonesia, instead of carrying the 'Vezel' nameplate, the car will bear the name HR-V. In the European markets, the Honda Vezel/HR-V will be pitted against its natural competitors like Nissan Qashqai, Peugeot 2008, Renault Captur and Suzuki S-Cross.

For the European markets, the Honda Vezel will be powered by the same 1.6 liter diesel engine which also powers the Civic and CR-V. Apart from the oil burner, the Vezel will also be the platform for Honda to make a debut for its all new 1.0 liter three cylinder turbocharged VTEC petrol engines. Apart from this, the other petrol engine on offer will be the tried-and-tested 1.5 liter from the City sedan and Jazz hatchback. The compact SUV measures 4295 mm in length, 1770 mm in width and 2610 mm in height.

In the markets in which it has been launched, the Honda Vezel sets itself as an entry-level compact SUV and sits in between the City and Civic in terms of price. There were earlier speculations that the Vezel has been considered by Honda for an Indian launch, but later on Honda found it unfit for the Indian market as the car cannot be squeezed under the 4-meter length to gain the tax benefits, and in its actual dimensional form, the car would prove a costlier proposition to make. To compensate with it, Honda is working on an all new Brio-based compact SUV, which is expected to make its way in India in early 2016.
