Citroen Second Car To Be Launched In 2021

  • Apr 08, 2019

Citroen, the leading French automobile manufacturer, will launch its second car in India in 2021. The company recently announced its plans to enter the Indian automobile market. Citroen has become the third company after Kia Motor and Morris Garages to set its eyes on India.

However, instead of debuting in the country with a brand new car, Citroen will start its journey with the C5 Aircross SUV. The urban SUV shares the same platform and underpinnings as the DS7.

The second car from the French automaker is likely to be an all-new product in Citroen’s international lineup. The vehicle will be manufactured in the company’s Hosur workshop and will be introduced in India before any other global market. The company has plans to convert the Hosur manufacturing unit into an export hub.

While Citroen has not hinted what the second car would be like, industry observers believe that the vehicle could be the next generation C3 Aircross. The current model of the car is 4.1m long. Citroen may reduce the length of the vehicle to sub-4m keeping the Indian customer in mind. As and when it’s introduced, the C3 Aircross SUV will compete against the Mahindra KUV300, Hyundai Venue, Suzuki Vitara Brezza, and the Ford EcoSport.

Citroen may pose a serious challenge to Hyundai Creta and other compact SUVs launched in India in recent times with the second car. The compact vehicle could also be the next-generation C4 Aircross. The car, as of now, is only sold in the Chinese market. It’s actually a longer wheelbase version of the Europe-specification C3 Aircross.

Citroen is expected to concentrate only on compact and full-sized SUVs for now. SUVs have become increasingly popular in all global markets including India. Morris Garages, sensing the opportunity, will be launching the Hector SUV in May. That aside, the British automobile manufacturer has lined up four more SUVs for India.
